The B&O, like most railroads in the 1960s, began cutting costs and simplifying its passenger operations. While many railroad's adopted very minimalist paint schemes on their trains, the B&O kept up a good bit of class with a deco scheme that certainly looked different than their classic dress blues, but retained splash of modern color and style and paired well with partner road C&O. By the end, trains like the National Limited had shrunk to just a 3 car consist - but at least the B&O let it keep some dignity.
