In 1932 the American Railway Association sought an improved design for the standard boxcars then commonly in use. In pursuit of that, the Pressed Steel Car Company built five sample cars in 1933. The five were used extensively around the country in testing and evaluation. Car #1 eventually made it's way to the New York Central and had the du-bious honor of being loaned to Pullman Standard for impact testing with one of their new designs. The paint schemes could not have been more plain, but these simple cars tell a big story about the evolution of America's freight car fleet. We feel it's a story worth repeating! Offered here are two of the ARA cars in their original dress along with NYC 100000 all prepared for testing. Give your train crews something to talk about as these pass through town.
