Al Perlman saw a dynamic future for passenger rail in lightweight streamlined trains. The New York Central's Xplorer brought that vision to life. Unfortunately, the train did not live up to expectations and it's time on the Central was short lived. But the concept and vision had merit and the train's dramatic form and color scheme remain an inviting look into the potential of rail travel even today.
