Amtrak’s “Heritage Fleet” was comprised of rebuilt equipment inherited from preceding railroads. Althoughcars received complete mechanical upgrades and modernization, they retained most of the external spottingfeatures of their ancestry making this part of the roster some of the most interesting and diverse. Predominatelyused on eastern long distance routes, these cars could be regularly found mixed in consists with newer Amfleetor Viewliner equipment. Many cars survived into the 1990s and beyond.This run is finished in the “Phase III” paint scheme. Introduced in 1976, nearly all of the Heritage Fleet cars worethis paint scheme at some point, even after Phase IV paint was introduced in 1993.
